Summary

The World Economic Outlook (WEO) supplies indispensable information and data relied on by policymakers and decision makers worldwide. As the IMF's respected economic scorecard, each WEO offers an in-depth briefing of the IMF staff's analysis and projections at the global level. This unique international exercise in information gathering and analysis performed by over 1,000 economists presents the IMF staff's perspective on global economic developments during the near and medium terms. Each WEO considers the issues affecting industrial countries, developing countries, and economies in transition to market. In this package, it is joined by five Regional Economic Outlook (REO) reports covering Asia and Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Central Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Western Hemisphere. In each of the regional volumes, recent economic developments and prospects for the region are discussed as a whole, as well as for specific countries. The reports include key data for countries in the regions. Each report zeroes in on economic policy developments that have affected economic performance in the region and discusses key challenges faced by policymakers. The near-term outlook, key risks, and their related policy challenges are analyzed throughout, as well as in special chapters that look more closely at topics such as the evolving nature of capital inflows, housing market developments, the impact of commodity price booms on lower-income economies, or the prospects for sustainable growth in developed economies. These publications present unsurpassed IMF research to help policymakers prepare for the economic and financial challenges ahead.
